It has been an eventful week to Kenya as Kofi Annan jetted back to the country to monitor its progress on reforms.
Most of his meetings with the Principals (Raila and Kibkai) and their lieutenants was coupled with accusations and counter accusations since no side wanted to bore the blame of derailing the reform Agenda.
It must have been a hard week for Annan as he came face to face with the grim reality of what has come of the much hyped up Kenyan reforms.
Kenya is now facing a fast approaching new general election yet the mess that wound up the last general election has not yet been solved.
Kenyans have lost confidence in their political leadership and anything is possible during the next election, and we cannot run away from reality.
A recent investigative story carried by the British Broadcasting Corporation shows that Kenya could face worse anarchy than witnessed in 2007/2008 in the next general election if the reforms are not implemented.
During his visit, Annan played his cards well and avoided direct indictment of Kibaki and Raila who should steer the country towards reforms yet they seem to be buying time apart from pulling their usuals political stunts of distributing food to the hungry but only after several deaths have been reported in the media.
It is very sad that even the internally displaced are still suffering in camps and have been reduced to beggars since the government seems to have closed their chapter. They have to beg the same government which has reneged its earlier promise of compensating them.
Kenya stands warned over reforms yet nothing is moving. Kibaki and Raila will never miss an opportunity of boasting over the 90 percent achieved performance on reforms yet the reform process is six months behind the schedule.
Kenyans are worried and the two leaders should know that the clock is ticking fast and the time bomb might explode leaving an irreparable damage. We cannot afford to witness bloodbath again even after sustainable push for reforms that are the only recipe for a peaceful Kenya.
