So what if I stated my tribe?

Why are people creating a big fuss about tribe now that Kenya will witness its fifth census since independence tonight, I wonder if it were some gifts being dispensed with varying qualities for different tribes how quick people would be to state their tribes and even clans.

Most Kenyans have vowed to omit the tribe query and state they are Kenyans, an issue that would strip off the Shs 7.4 billion exercise intended sense.

I fail to understand why Kenyans sometimes fall into political traps of the ‘heaven’ promising politicians who have thrown the tribe issues and census out of proportion. Census is an important issue that should be kept off any political dimension.

Can people for once stand up on their own feet, so what will happen If I answered the question as it should? Census in Kenya was first held in 1948 when Kenya was a British colony. The next head count was in 1962, one year before independence, followed by 1969. Since then there has been a census every 10 years. So you will go through this in 10 years time again, participate with a clean heart and sober mind.

Kenya’s population is expected to hit 40 million mark from 28.7 million recorded 10 years ago.

Is Kenya capable enough to take care of 40 million people on their home land?

The resources are overstretched, though with proper government planning it would manage to cater for the population but corruption and worse malpractices by our leaders has reduced a bigger percentage of the population to abject poverty and worse is expected now that the climate is also not on our side.

But what's the issue in stating their tribes and clans? Could you elaborate please.

What happened in Kenya early last year after the general election was purely based on tribal enmity, and as the nation continues to reunite and encourage peaceful co-existence between different tribes the issue of tribe has proved very sensitive, but as much as we would not want to witness the same, statistics on different tribes when it comes to a country’s census is very important for proper planning and policy making, what is happening is very discouraging since politicians have since the poll chaos unproportionally staged their arguments concerning tribe matters , Kenyans would want to run away from the truth having been misled by the leaders, but it is very unfortunate we cannot think on our own that is why we keep on electing the wrong leaders.
