Kibaki, Museveni playing poker

Since the circus surrounding the one acre piece of rock named Migingo Island gained momentum, I have always refrained myself from throwing tantrums towards Uganda whenever my colleagues who are getting more and more agitated with the insistence by Ugandans that the rock belongs to them.

I have realized how angry Kenyans are, judging by what has been happening at my place of work when a debate on the now infamous Island ensues.

“How can you negotiate over ownership of something that belongs to you?” one of my collegues quipped yesterday morning. The discussion has become inevitable now that all news sources are on the toes on highlighting any slight development on the Island.
Migingo belongs to Kenya. That is it. My stand is as a result of a clear map that shows where the Island is in Kenya.

Ugandans, be warned, Kenyans are angry and spoiling for war, already some common scenes witnessed during the post election violence are on the prowl. Already some rails leading to UG have been uprooted by angry youth but I am not justifying their hooliganism.

Unless its proved otherwise, the two countries should not argue over the tiny rock. Some comments are not also encouraging, a Ugandan leader expected to inject some professionalism in solving the matter is on record saying that the Kenyan leaders ‘clinging’ to the ownership of the Island were just reflecting wrangles that have bedeviled their political parties.

It is not fair for some one to intrude into a country’s matters however unstable or mucky it is. Our country’s diplomacy should not be taken for granted, Kibaki and Museveni should also be advised that we will not entertain their mutual relations if its at our expense. We want Migingo back. Period.

migingo island is something soon to waste a very warm relationship. It is so surprising that it is no such a ”big news” item in Uganda.... unlike for Kenya.

Most people in Kampala didn’t know about this island until reports yesterday that irate kenyans are uprooting the railway route to Uganda...

Am greatly surprised that kenyans are so alert at every slight mention of migingo in their news and more especially that you are having debates about it in your offices..

Now, i don’t know what it is that this island has to drive us to the extent of war but if it is neither gold nor oil then you can have it and for God’s sake lets continue building the east african spirit and not fueling war.

Hi, John, me and you can reason as peaceful people but believe me our leaders cannot, like i mentioned in my write up i have always refrained from making any sort of comments until i saw a map of where the Island is in one of the local dailies here, and comments coming from our leaders make things worse, people are becoming agitated hour by hour you know why,Kenyans are tired of leaders taking everything to themselves and again at least a word from the president who recently met with Museveni I am sure can quell the tension but he has remained adamant leaving everything to his juniors who are so good in fueling enmity and bad blood, we would not want to see them take back to where we were sometimes back. The debate on Migingo is so rife here my friend regardless of how small it is, thanks to our leaders many of us were not even aware of its existence, i believe Kibaki and Museveni are the best of friends a piece of rock should not spoil this.

We can only hope that sense and
sensibilities prevail and the telephone conversation between the two heads of
state does count for something.
As for the Kenyan press, as usual they are
playing to the gallery, sensationalism has always been the means to buy
audiences’ attention.

Yah, we can only hope that the 2 can conserve the peace and understanding between the two nations.

Kenya doesn't need to go to war with Uganda. Just seal the border and cut off
oil and other supplies as a starting point, if Uganda is so bent on hostilities

That would be too harsh Wilson.

Should Kenya and Uganda go to war over the island. Probably not. Do Kenyans and
Ugandans want to go to war. Definitely not. Can Kenya and Uganda go to war. Yes
because of a belligerent Museveni and an indecisive Kibaki!

I like the way Uganda has behaved maturely and not replied to Kenya's political
woes that they scapegoat on Uganda. Some Kenyans are itching for war. But
Uganda is more experienced in wars. Museveni, Uganda's president is a strategist
and very tolerant when he hears the language of war.

We hope the strategy he is working on will work no one wants war.
