Iran should learn from Kenya

What is happening to Iran also happened to Kenya a year ago, and I can only imagine of the tension and unease that the people of Iran have to contend with right now.

When all what was happening to Kenya came to an end the country was left nursing serious injuries whose scars will remain forever. The country’s much achieved progress was brought to its knees and innocent Kenyans bore the brunt of all the violence that the country soaked itself into.

And as much as Kenya was guided towards a resolution, the will had to be from the warring leaders who agreed to form a coalition government that saved the country from falling into anarchy.

At the moment the US president Obama is under intense pressure to declare his stand on what is happening in Iran and those calling for his word seem to have made a choice- they want Obama to condemn the Iranian government but how is this going to help?

Leaders should instead be calling on the aggrieved parties to follow the right procedure in seeking justice however painful it is. Demonstration and protests will only cause more harm and going by what the Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamene said, bloodshed is imminent.

He even went to say that the opposition leaders who failed to halt the protests “would be responsible for bloodshed and chaos.”
The tough words seemed to dash hopes for a peaceful solution to what defeated candidates and protesters call a fraudulent election, plunging Iran into its gravest crisis since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Rose, you may be right to a certain extent but freedom cannot be achieved without paying the price for it. Iranian people have come out to streets to fight for their freedom and people around the world should support them in this fight.

Yah i fully support them but in most cases innocent people end up suffering while others die in the name of fighting for freedom, i know how it feels having gone through such a thing but fighting is the not the last resort Rodders.

Begging for the rights never help...you have to snatch them by hook or by crook.

Obama should uphold democratic principles and not negotiate with a president that fakes votes and shoots asleep students in their dorms. Obama should clearly condemn the acts of violence committed by the Islamic Republic against the civilians. America is already in the Middle East and it is foolish of Americans to think that they can trust any promise made by the Iranian government on any issue.

Iran should handle their own problems..USA should not stick their nose into it. Sick and tired of the USA being everyone's watch dog. It doesn't matter who these people vota for, no change for that country. Like our president is suppose to take care of their affairs. Take care of USA first. Put what money we have back into our country. Stop acting like we rule every country, but our own.

I wish you would know how it feels when a country is in such a condition and as much as maybe the election was rigged do you expect the Iranian president to bow to pressure and step down if Obama condemns him? No way, this could even worsen the situation since those calling for the protests will get more agitated. So far Obama has proved competent enough in dealing with crisis outside his territory.

The problem here is that we talk the democratic talk but we don’t always walk the democratic walk. Whether or not that is a good thing, I am not sure.

This is what is supposed to happen when someone screws with democracy, the people revolt. A democratic government is a people's government, and if their voices are muted in lieu of a charade of that government, they have a moral obligation to take to the streets and reclaim their nation. Good for them.

@Farhan

Dictators will always be dictators, and in such a case there has to be a subject who are the voters who feel aggrieved whenever their decision is watered down. But who suffers whenever people take to the streets demanding democracy? the same people whose votes were misused.
Its not right but two wrongs have never made a right, fighting spoils the whole meaning of democracy.

Imagine of a guy who din’t make it through the protests and was killed during the protests since there have been deaths already, would you say good for him he died fighting for democracy?

Millions of people got killed to achieve Independence for India. We can't remember the names of all of them but the sacrifice made by each one of them counts and its because of them that we are living in a free country today.

Each one who die, does matter...

The people in the streets of Tehran are not protesting their leaders as much as they are asking America for help! The signs in the street are in English for our consumption!! “Where is my vote?”.

Obama needs to respond with purpose not malaise, and support the movement for freedom!!

I think that why he decided to remain moderate with his comments, he is actually choosing and scrutinizing his words since, this is a very delicate situation.

It would be nice if the US had a way to apply diplomatic and economic pressure upon Iran to persuade them to allow international review of their electoral process, but that option has already been squandered with the neocon hysteria about non-existent bomb grade uranium enrichment programs.

An international electoral review would a good option but No country would allow this.
” the option has already been squandered with the neocon hysteria about non-existent bomb grade uranium enrichment programs.” what makes you think of this as non-existent.

I heard on of the politicians in Iran got lesser votes than his number of supporters! Iranians should fight for democracy, it is required very much to ensure peace in the world and they have always been a beacon of light for the Arab world.

Democracy will always be elusive and i would rather live in peace than get maimed and injured while fighting for it.

Having been a citizen of a country messed up by post-election chaos, no one can convince me otherwise.
