Child resorts to drug abuse due to lack of attention

When Njeri narrates her moving and effusive story, tears flow freely down her cheeks and not even the comfort she gets from her friend stops her poignant cry.

She is only 20 years, but her story would make you think she has lived more than this. Njeri is now living in a world of her own having been raised by a single mum who at the moment has totally forsaken her.

She is now a drug addict and a commercial sex worker at least to secure a living. “ I would risk anything since I have to live and this is the only way out, I take drugs to relieve my disturbed mind and face the harsh reality that my life has come to,” she says.

She started doing drugs at 13 a crucial time when she needed her mother who had already moved on with life. Her mother gave birth to her after high school but has always blamed her sorry status of life to Njeri whom the mother says messed her future since she would have achieved much more than she has.

Njeri now has been forced to live with her friend who also comes from an unfortunate background. I feel sorry for Njeri since she has no one to turn to as a mother whereas her real mum is somewhere moving on with life. What a harsh world.

This is what happens when people get involved into relationships and do not realize the responsibilities that they are supposed to fulfill. Every individual has a right to live the life the way he wants to but only when you don’t have a child.

Hi Cinthya
Thanks for your comment, this girl has gone through a lot due to some irresponsible mother who feels she should not have been born.

Raising children is a huge task. One has to pay a lot in order to give his child a good life. Such parents should be punished for spoiling a child’s life. My sympathies to the poor girl who does not have good memories of her childhood.

Hi Rukhshanda
Thanks for the comment, i wish Kenya would have strict laws that deal with such cases, such children wouldn’t have to suffer.

I don’t understand why people give birth to a child when they can’t take care of it. Its completely unfair for the poor child who suffers throughout the life without any fault of his. I hope this girl finds someone who shall love her truly. God can’t be merciless towards her.

Hi Ankita!
The world can be so harsh but this poor girl has had a fair share of it and as you said it’s only God’s mercy and faithfulness that keeps her going.

There is always the other side of the coin. The positive part is that the girl wants to live. She can live a better life. Govt should help her get out of habit of drugs and start some small business. This way she may see some ray of hope in her life.

this happens when you goota lose grip on the children and particularly women!! you need to have control and that why we have some very good customs in Islam and women are controlled by parents and husbands thereafter...hence no such cliche...

this is sad story of a girl who has none to look after particularly when she is deserted by her mom even...what else to do than this when you fight for your survival and it becomes tough day by day in a country that is devastated by the tribal violence and fear for lives.
