Ten million Kenyans face hunger

Ten million Kenyans are facing starvation but all our politicians can do is heighten their blame games as the situation deteriorates.

Ten million Kenyans face hunger

When the post election violence erupted early last year, the country’s breadbasket was serious affected since most farmers were displaced from their farms, it was obvious that the country would starve at some point but the government’s effort to even resettle the farmers leaves a lot to be desired.

Most of these farmers are still suffering in the camps where they have been living since then and God knows when their predicament will be fixed.

It’s ironical though that our members of parliament are now pointing accusing fingers to the Prime Minister because he allegedly canceled the construction of a second grain handler at the port of Mombasa hence the maize shortage the country is experiencing at the moment.

This is not the first time Kenya is facing such a problem, every year a good number of people lose lives to hunger but the leadership has proved ham fisted to deal with the calamity that
has now become perennial.

Tell tale signs show that even more will feel the heat as the reality of global warming hit the country as the weather continue to become volatile.

Already a good number of families around the country have been forced to do with one meal in a day as the cost of food continue to rise whereas others go without meals if they do not get lucky enough to get relief food.

Mostly affected are informal settlements and remote places across the country where residents live below a dollar a day. A 2kg packet of maize flour has now become unaffordable to many families since the maize shortage that has bedeviled the country hence raising the chances of starvation.

The country’s food security continues to dwindle as climate change does not spare us either.

terrible situation! Worse still is that I live next door and none of this is making headlines locally!

Maybe because we have our own starvation to take care of?! But then, what is the east african community for? if we are not to help each other, financially, economically and situations like these??!

Hi John. Thanks for your comment, its that bad anyway, and if our leaders are not going to be a lttle bit more responsible more are bound to starve, suffer and rot in poverty.

It is shameful for humanity . At one end so called developed/developing countries wasting money on weapons lavishly to destroy human being while at the other end people are dying due to hunger .
